April 19, 2008

This is a bit of a departure from the sunrise theme, but this aquarium is an attraction of exceptional interest. The Toba Aquarium is one of the largest in the world and has over 850 types of saltwater and river fish, including frogs, aquatic insects, sea turtles, and coral.

For those folks who spend a good part of each day focused at a computer screen, this aquarium is a great way to relax the eye muscles. Brilliantly colored fish large and small mingle with sea turtles and other aquatic creatures.

Tomsk Siberian Webcams

April 19, 2008

In 1604, Tomsk was established under a decree from Tsar Boris Godunov. He sent 200 Cossacks to construct a fortress at the bank of the Tom River overlooking what would become the city of Tomsk. This city on the Tom River in the southwest of Siberian Federal District, Russia, is located near a major center of plutonium production and reprocessing and uranium enrichment in Russia.

Tomsk

Winters in this region are extremely harsh, and in 2006 the city was subjected to hurricane force winds that toppled trees and damaged many buildings. Here are two streaming Axis cameras that open in pop up windows.

Cape Town was originally developed as a victualling (supply) station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India, and the Far East more than 200 years before the construction of the Suez Canal in 1869. Jan van Riebeeck’s arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa.

Often regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cities because of its geography. This is an impressive collection of cameras, and viewing the sunrise from the top of Table Mountain is a magical experience.

Campania Italy Cameras

Campania was part of the Magna Graecia, the Greek colonies of southern Italy; the first Greek colony was founded at Cumae, north of present day Naples, in the 8th century BC. The name derives from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix (“fortunate countryside”), a name that is shared by the French province of Champagne.

Positano

The image above was taken at dawn at Positano on the Salerno coast of Italy. If you have the bandwidth, this is a stunning collection of streaming cameras with great locations for watching a sunrise. There are several options for viewing these cams, and an effort is made to accommodate all viewers.

Krakatoa is a stratovolcano in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It has erupted repeatedly, massively, and with disastrous consequences throughout recorded history.

krakotoe.jpg

The best known eruption culminated in a series of massive explosions on August 26–27, 1883, which was among the most violent volcanic events in modern times. With a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 6, it was equivalent to 200 megatons of TNT — about 13,000 times the yield of an Atomic detonation.

The KRAKMON systems consists of a number of geophysical, gas-geochemical and environmental measuring sites on the Krakatau island complex located in the Sunda Strait.

All data are acquired continuously and are transmitted to the Pasauran Observatory (Western Java) via digital radio telemetry. In Pasauran, the data are collected and transmitted to a server in Jakarta Indonesia via VSAT. From here, the data are accessible through internet.
